🦄 Meet Brittney Carmichael. The mother of all unicorns!

Brittney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?

Empowering women wasn’t always my mission in life. 15 years ago when I started my luxury vegan hair salon OMGhairstyles in Frisco, Texas my mission was to make women LOOK beautiful. But after years of listening to what women say about themselves, I’ve learned that confidence is a choice and REAL beauty begins within.

I didn’t know it at the time, but I was naturally coaching each woman that sat in my chair. Asking her what her passions were. Her dreams. Her desires. Shockingly, I realized that MOST women replied with “I don’t know what my passion is.” And that’s where I begin to help women discover who they really are and what they truly LOVE.

After doing some much-needed self-reflection, I decided to make some major changes in my life.

I lost 75lbs with a vegan lifestyle, set firm boundaries with my clients at work, and then took my passion for empowering women online in 2016 and started my blog to inspire women to SHINE from the inside.

Struggling with years of “weight issues” and an “inner mean girl” who was constantly judging and criticizing myself, I TOTALLY know what it feels like being disconnected from your body and soul. My mission today involves empowering women to FEEL beautiful by learning to love their authentic self.

To help women achieve this seemingly hard task, I created Shine School™, a 6-week online experience designed to help release the past, step into your Truth, and intentionally create a life you’re in love with!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?

Ab-so-lute-ly NOT! In 2012, shit hit the fan. I was 75lbs overweight, my work/life balance was outta whack, and my mom suffered a massive stroke. Oh, and then I almost died on a mountain in Colorado. Those turning points in my life (even though they all came within 3 months of each other) was a wake-up call for me. To step out of my comfort zone, my anger, my old beliefs and into a life led with passion, joy, and wonder.

Without struggle, there is no growth and I am on a path of transformation.

I’ve always been the transformer of hair but today I am the transformer of hearts. Because I know what it’s like to struggle and I am someone who has overcome fear and trauma, I’m here to be an example that CHANGE is possible.

Your past doesn’t dictate your present. You can speak up. You can learn the wisdom life is offering in each challenge by searching for the silver lining. You can move on. If you’re not dead yet, you still have a chance.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

What I’m most know for is my unicorn pink hair and authentic ability to “tell-it-like-it-is”. You know that friend you go to for a kick in the butt in the right direction. Yeah, I’m here. I intuitively share inspiring perspectives on ways in which you can approach life in a more beautiful way that feels aligned with your authentic self.

My famous Woo-Woo Wednesday live tarot readings are a fan favorite. As a psychic medium, I like to tune into the energy of each week to see what wisdom nature is showing us and how it relates to our life. You can find those on my Facebook page and Instagram.

I offer private coaching in both the spiritual and business worlds, host luxury retreats, offer tarot readings, The Elevated Life monthly membership club (with my hubby and me!) and my online course Shine School™ to help empower you to become the most confident person you know!

What I’m most proud of in my business is seeing other women blossom into who they truly are after removing the mask of what society wanted them to be.

What were you like growing up?

Growing up I was fiercely independent and beat to my own drum. Which didn’t play me any favors growing up in a small Texas Country town? I always joke and say you can’t fit a STAR in a square shaped box.

I loved spending time in nature and always assumed the leadership role of the neighborhood kids. I always asked “What if…” questions and my mom says she knows I’ll be president someday. (But I’m smart enough to AVOID politics!)

I was an entrepreneur by age 6. I collected all the aluminum beer cans from the neighborhood and exchanged them for cash. My dad recalls the man who collected the cans was eating his lunch when we came in and says “I shouldn’t talk with my mouth full.” Apparently, my reply was “As long as you’re talkin’ cash I don’t care.”

I was born to blaze trails, but for many years I shut down. I fell into the trap of self-judgment and comparison. Because I didn’t “fit in” there was always a pressure to be like this or that. I stopped trusting my judgment and following my heart’s guidance. It took a few back to back wakeup calls to shake up my reality and realize I can love myself NOW and not one day when I’m 10lbs smaller.

Randomly, I also LOVED to throw parties in my backyard with all my toys in long straight line.
