The Secret Vision Board Technique That Changed My Life

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always had a special passion for cutting out beautiful photos from magazines and collaging them together to create a vision board.

Little did I know that this visualization technique is super powerful in helping you to manifest your visions and dreams.

In fact, dreaming big and making visions boards since I was a Hanson obsessed 5th grader is what makes my work as a visionary in the world so potent.

And funny enough, now that I think about literally EVERY square inch of my room coverrred in Hanson with a FEW pops of Spices Girls I JUUST now connected the dots that I freaking MET the Hanson brothers the year I met Chris.

Wow. Talk about all those Teen Witch spells of picking “He loves me, he loves me not” flowers and spinning in circles a million times to call in my Prince Charming.

Well...it worked.

I met Hanson AND I found my lifelong soul mate in the same year at age 20. If you think about the timeline there – it really didn’t take THAT long to receive what I had been dreaming for.

So I wanted to share just exactly HOW I craft those gorgeously inspiring visions boards. Back in the day I used to get paid to teach these workshops (which I may just have to bring back!)

If you’re looking for a fun, creative way to express your unique vision, I highly recommend giving vision boarding a try. Not only is it a way for you to tap into your creativity and dreams, but it also helps you to gain total clarity and focus on what you ACTUALLY want to create in your life.

What is a vision board?

They have many names vision/mood board, goal/dream boards. They are a very powerful tool to help you connect with yourself and motivate you to take your life to the next level. Focusing on intentions you want to create in your life; what you want, need, value, how you want to feel, what you want to see, do or experience.

Some key things to know about vision boards:

  • Purpose: The purpose of a vision board is to help you get clear on what really matters to you and visualize your goals and dreams in a way that inspires and motivates you to take action. It makes your visions concrete.
  • Creation: To create a vision board, you gather pictures, words, quotes, etc. that symbolize the things you want, either by cutting them out from magazines/catalogs or finding digital images online. You then arrange them on a poster board or something similar.
  • Emotions: Choosing visuals that elicit positive emotions from you programs your subconscious to recognize opportunities aligned with your goals. Feeling into each vision is important.
  • Placement: Put your vision board somewhere you’ll see it daily like your bathroom mirror, fridge, or workspace to remind you of what you’re manifesting.
  • Review: Look at your board regularly to stay focused and motivated. Update images as needed if your goals evolve.
  • Results: By seeing and feeling your goals regularly through your vision board, you can increase clarity, focus, and self-belief to take inspired action and help make your visions a reality.

Who are they good for?

Anyone! Goal setters. Dreamers. Visionaries. And even non-creatives. Anyone willing to take a little time out of their busy schedule to create space for creativity and clarity. We’re not asking you to create a fine art masterpiece here. 🙂

Vision boards have been known to be more powerful than just writing down your goals on paper.

Visualization is the formation of a mental image of something, and the more you bring these visions into your imagination and FEEL the emotion behind it, the faster you align your energy with what you’re wanting to attract into your life. (We’re talking Law of Attraction stuff here.)

It is completely normal for your board to change + evolve. (Trust me, my vision boards from 5 years ago look NOTHING like what my soul craves today.) Just as we continue to grow and transform so will your board. I like to create vision boards 1-2x per year. (Depending on how fast I manifest or eliminate things I didn’t REALLY want from my board.)

There is no right or wrong way to create one so find what works for you best and follow your intuition – your internal guide. Having a board can help you create a plan of action for achievements. By doing this you are paying attention to your dreams + goals and you are taking a step forward toward growth.

How to Create Your Vision Board

Before getting started

Set out a good chunk of time to do this, either by yourself or with friends. Doing this can spark creativity and inspiration. When you become clear about the things you want in your life and you continually focus your attention on those desires, you will begin to uncover the next action step you’ll need to take to attract those desires into your life.

Create a space

Set up where you feel comfortable and with a large enough area to spread out. Ex: Living room, craft space, or dining table. You can set the mood by lighting candles, incense, chanting, meditation, crystals, music, singing, or anything that supports your peacefulness, relaxation and evokes your dreams and desires. Make sure you feel safe and grounded.

Tune into your feelings

Chose a single word that describes what energy you wish you attract more of in your life. Ex: Free, Calm, Open, Abundant, Loving etc. When creating your vision board, it’s crucial to tap into your feelings and emotions. Vision boarding is about so much more than just cutting out pictures and words – it’s a way for you to connect with how you truly feel about your goals on a deep, heart-centered level. Your emotions act as a compass, guiding you towards what truly lights you up and brings you joy. Taking the time to feel grateful for what you want to call in, or feel confident and empowered by your dreams, programs your subconscious to seek out and recognize opportunities that align with your visions. Harnessing positive feelings like hope, excitement and passion as you craft your board infuses it with energetic frequency and intention that can help manifest what you’ve envisioned. Let your heart lead the way as you select images and statements – the visions that stir your soul on an emotional level have the most magnetic quality to be drawn into reality.

Areas of your life

This can be simple where you dial in on one main category or detailed and more specific covering a variety of categories. Areas to consider: Education, Family, Business, Health, Finances, Relationships, Personal Growth, Productivity, Spirituality, Romance, Fun, Giving, Vacations, Health and Fitness, or Home Environment

Gather your supplies

If you’re anything like me you have loads of magazines lying around, poster board or canvas (I go for a 16×20 canvas, but you can use anything from a notebook to a pin board online), scissors, glue, and all your BIG dreams. You can also cut out personal photos, make lists, print off inspiring quotes or affirmations to put on your board. You can even do this virtually using things like Pinterest. Be sure when collecting images, you are selecting things that are a reflection of YOU and what you wish to manifest more of in your life. When you’re done skimming through all the magazine pages you can review all the items you’ve collected to put on your board. Once you’ve reflected on each specific vision – ask yourself – is this REALLY something I’m willing to put in dedication action for?

Resistance

If you find yourself feeling resistance to images you have chosen or while you are putting the board together, just notice it, accept it, and let it go. Heal the resistance by honoring it and releasing it. Crank up the tunes and start putting your board together. Be sure to have FUN! Believe in yourself and your abilities to achieve the things you put on your board. When you paste each photo or quote to your board I want you to really FEEL the feeling of what it would be like if those desires were already in your life NOW. Use that energy to attract them to you.

How to get the most out of your board

Display it – This could be on your desk, your desktop, your screensaver, office or bedroom wall, fridge, basically anywhere you can see it. Make sure you’re not only LOOKING and IMAGINING but you’re FEELING the feelings of your dreams coming true.

See it daily – Make sure you can see it on the reg!

Give thanks – Acknowledge and feel as if your board has already come true

Trust – This or something better is coming to you and the Universe is supporting you

Do NOT explain it – This is for you and your soul

Take a photo – Carry it with you always by saving it on your phone

Make it happen

The more you visualize or see your dreams coming true, the more you’ll gravitate towards it naturally. List things that you could experiment with to start living out your values + dreams NOW! Be sure to ground this list in things that are in your control. Remember this isn’t meant to stress you out or make you feel bad. Drop your perfectionism. Doing this is going to help you level up your life and the experience should be fun.

I wanna see what you’re manifesting so share a photo of your board in the comments below and let’s make some magic! 🔮

What do people do with old vision boards?

    • Great question. Anything you want!! I keep mine until I realize those visions and feel it’s time to create a new one. All of my cutouts are tapped so I can easily pull them off the canvas and start fresh.
