As the owner of multiple businesses, I know a thing or two about burnout as an entrepreneur.
Owning your own business can be super overwhelming, and burnout is almost unavoidable if you’re not taking time for yourself.
This topic is one of the most important things you can focus on in your entrepreneurial journey, especially as we get bombarded daily with messages about social media strategy and how to earn more money.
Too many ideas, too many late night hours, and too many decisions can lead entrepreneurs to giving up before they achieve their biggest dreams. 3 Tips to Avoid Burnout
1. Get away and unplug.
This can seem counter-intuitive, especially when we constantly hear so much about productivity, engagement, and content creation. Chris and I believe in taking a balanced approach to business – push when you have the energy and step back when you’re feeling called to rest.
When you’re feeling that you don’t have the time to step away because of your massive to-do list…is actually the time when stepping away is exactly what you need to do to propel you forward.
Recently Chris and I took a break and headed to our favorite cabin in the woods to unplug. (The power even went off when we were there so we COULDN’T do work even if we tried!)
When we returned home, I opened my laptop to learn that I had just hit $100,000 in sales on Kajabi. It was amazing to come back from our break, to learn that all of our hard work had paid off. (Since that day we’ve doubled our sales!)
Take action: Schedule one day out of the week, one weekend a month, and one week a quarter to completely unplug, rest, and recharge
2. Find meaning in what you do. Remember your why.
If you have forgotten your why, you will likely give up before you hit your turning point moment.
Social media, comparison, and jealousy can come up along your entrepreneurial journey and cause burnout because you might begin wondering “Why isn’t this happening for me?” If comparison has you on the edge of burnout, it’s time to refocus on your why.
Why did you start doing what you were doing? What made you excited to get started? What inspired you to help, share, and contribute?
Take action: If you’re in a service-based business, read through old client testimonials! It will remind you why you started doing this work in the first place.
3. Prioritize self-care.
We all have the same number of hours in the day (even Beyonce!) If you’re not carving out regular time for self-care, you won’t be operating at your highest potential.
Self-care is non-negotiable. If you find yourself saying “I don’t have time for self-care”, you need to change your whole life. In the same way that neglecting our health will cause our bodies to break down, neglecting self-care will break down our spiritual and emotional well-being.
