6 Steps to Self-Care

Never Speak Bad About Yourself

Self-care begins with how you speak to yourself. If you’re talking down to yourself, it’s going to be really hard to show up with confidence and go after what you want. We’ve all made mistakes or wished we had done better, but if you stay in a blaming mindset, it will be almost impossible for you to succeed because of this lack of confidence. When we speak badly about ourselves, it also creates an energy and environment that reflects this. So start right now – make a pact with yourself for the next seven days that you won’t say one single bad thing about yourself. It’s time to start doing something different and start praising yourself in a way that nourishes you!

Let Go Of Control

There are things that you absolutely cannot control in your experience. No matter how high-vibe you are, how much broccoli you eat, or how much gratitude or prayer you put out there, there are some things you absolutely cannot control. What we can control are our attitudes and responses to any given experience. We can learn to respond and learn how to hold ourselves through the moments that feel uncertain. We can build up our confidence to know we have the will to make it through unforeseen moments.

Trust Your Instincts

We all have an intuition and a gut feeling inside of us. If you haven’t practiced trusting your intuition before, it might be hard to notice it at first, but your intuition is a massive emotional feeling that we get in our bodies. You can notice this feeling in small moments and ask yourself what your body is trying to tell you. Think of something you know that you love (like puppies or the smell of lavender) and how that feels in your body. Then think of something you don’t love, like pickles or doing laundry; how do those make you feel? Recognize the differences and start to notice these physical feelings in your day to day life. This will help you start to listen to your intuition, which will help you to know what you need to take care of yourself.

Stop Being a People Pleaser

It’s important to recognize where we’re leaking our energy and giving our power away by saying yes to the things that don’t light us up. Saying no to things that aren’t aligned with us is a huge act of self-care. Caring for others is beautiful, but it becomes a problem when we sacrifice our own well-being or authenticity for the sake of others. So you can ask yourself – where might you sacrifice your dreams to please other people? Once you know what you want, you’ll stop saying yes to what you know are an absolute no in your mind, and you’ll be able to live more fully as your authentic self.

Say Exactly What You Mean

This means practicing Radical Honesty. It’s about sharing your true authentic self and not shutting yourself off from expressing what is true for you. Open communication with others is so important in building healthy relationships, and the same goes for our relationship with ourselves. Be honest with yourself. Get real with yourself. Trust that you don’t have to live in protection mode and hide who you are. The more you start to speak up and be honest with yourself and others, the more people will respect you.

Don’t Give Up on Your Dreams

Your soul has a message to share. It has a purpose, mission, and feeling that it wants to fulfill. But we can only start to work towards this once we tend to the other parts of ourselves through the above steps. Not giving up on your dreams happens once we can speak lovingly to ourselves, let go of what we can’t control, learn to trust ourselves, release our people-pleasing tendencies, and start owning what we want. Following your dreams is the biggest act of self-love you can give to yourself.
