How to Finally Overcome Procrastination
Ditch Perfectionism
In the beginning, when you’re doing something, what happens is you fail a lot because it’s new to you. It makes you frustrated, you get angry, so you procrastinate. That cycle keeps spinning and spinning. Instead, if you just took a calm approach to it and realized that failure was part of the process, you’d be able to move further forward in whatever it is you’re doing.
Determine What’s Important
Eat the frog and just do what you need to do right now and don’t put it off. You have to do that next step, and you have to put it first. And a lot of times, we build up steps in our head to make them sound hard. You want to tackle those immediately, especially if they’re important. So always be thinking of what is the most important thing.
Map Out the Next Five Steps
Even if you don’t know the full spectrum, if you mapped out the next five possible steps to move you forward towards your goal, all you have to do is take step one. It’s about getting clear on the first step and then having the courage to take that first step. Action is what moves the needle forward. Focus On the Goal
Often, when you watch someone successful, it looks like it’s easy, but only because they’re not telling you what’s going on in their head. Successful people have given up the excuses holding them back. What they’re thinking about becomes the motivating driving force. It doesn’t matter if you felt tired or if you had to stay an hour late. That’s the cost of being great at something. It’s going to take away some portion of your life, but it will add value in other areas.
